The events follow Genesis 11.31. The events follow Abraham&#8217;s deliverance by the Lord from May Our \u2013 Kasdim. In Genesis 15.7, the Lord said to him, &#8216;<em>\u00a0I am the Lord that brought you out of May Our Kasdim [the fiery furnaces] to give you everything from Aleph to Tav of this land to inherit.&#8217;<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The WORD <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u05d4\u05b7\u05d3\u05b0\u05bc\u05d1\u05b8\u05e8\u05b4\u05d9\u05dd <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ha Di Vaw Reem refers to past \u2013 present \u2013 future events in Avraham&#8217;s life.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ten designations express prophecy:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Vision, [Visual Words]\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Speech [Spoken Words]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Prophecy \/ Influx [Spoken \/ Written Words],<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Commands<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Sayings<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">burden<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Parable<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Metaphor<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Enigma<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Allegory<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">See &#8212; Beresheit Rabba 44.6<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Abram received a Vision of Words and a Vision of Speech. The Vision was so powerful Abraham was frightened.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">That was one of those times the Lord made promises to Abraham. See Genesis 12 and 15. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">The Word of the Lord is so powerful that the promises He makes are secure without banks, without vaults, without guards, et cetera. After Abraham&#8217;s Vision in Genesis 15, he believed that he had nothing to fear regarding being childless.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Our Sages state that Avram said to HaShem.<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0&#8216;Master of the Universe!&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0Avram objected.<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0&#8216;I have seen in the stars that I am unable to have a son!&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The Lord said to Avram,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;Forget about your astrology!&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0The Lord told Avram,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;Your fate is above the prognosis of the stars. The Jewish nation is not subject to mazel (natural destiny).<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">One morning Rabbi Yannai and Rabbi Yochanan were standing at the gates of Tiberias. They stood side by side with two [Noachide] astrologers who observed all the workers as they were going to their jobs in the morning. The astrologers commented to the Sages,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;Do you see those two workers there? They are going to die of a snake bite.&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">R. Yannai and R. Yochanah waited until the workers returned. Among them, they saw the two workers of whom the astrologers had spoken. The Sages commented to the astrologers,<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0&#8216;Didn&#8217;t you say that they would not leave work alive, but that a snake would poison them?&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;Yes!&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">confirmed the astrologers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;But they came back in peace,&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">the Sages commented.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The astrologers summoned the two men and asked them, &#8216;<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">What did you do today?&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;The same as every morning,&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">they replied.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0&#8216;We prayed Shema and Sh&#8217;mone Esri and went to work.&#8217;<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&#8216;You are Jews!&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">exclaimed the astrologers.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0&#8216;The predictions of astrologers do not apply to Jews.&#8217;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Rabbi Moshe Weissman,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><u>The Midrash Says<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0(Brooklyn, New York: Benei Yakov Publications 1980), pp 143, 144<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Genesis 15.5 &#8211; 6<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">[And the Lord] brought [Abraham] outside, and said, &#8216;Look now toward Heaven, and count the stars, if you can trust them; and he said to him, So shall your seed be. And [Abraham] believed in the Lord, and [the Lord] counted it to him for righteousness.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Rabbi Joshua said in Rabbi Levi&#8217;s name: The Lord showed Abraham the streets of Heaven. He lifted him above the vault of Heaven, directing Abraham to look down from above. (Abraham, you are above the fate of the stars and can ignore it). The Rabbis said that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">G-d said, to Abraham, &#8216;you a prophet, not an astrologer,&#8217; He is a prophet<\/span> (Genesis 20.7).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Rabbi Dr. H. Freedman,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><u>Midrash Rabba<\/u><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0(New York, NY: The Soncino Press 1983)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Later in Genesis 24.7, Abraham says to Eliezer, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>&#8216;Who spoke to me&#8217;<\/strong><\/span> and <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Who swore to me.&#8217;<\/span><\/strong> O<strong>ur Sages Teach that these statements are in references to here in Genesis 15 &#8216;at the Covenant between the pieces&#8217;.<\/strong> Rabbi Avrohom Davis,\u00a0<u>The Mesudah Chumash A New Linear Translation Bereishis\u00a0<\/u>(Hoboken New Jersey, KTVA Publishing House, Inc., 1991) p 248 The fulfillment of that promise happened again when Isaac&#8217;s sons, Eisov and Yaakov, were born 90 years later in Genesis 25.26. We can look back over history and see the promises the Lord made and the promises the Lord kept.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Unlike humans <em>&#8216;Every Word of God is proven. He is a shield to those who put trust in Him.&#8217;<\/em> Proverbs 30.5 People disappoint us. They let us down. Some make promises they do not keep. Others deliberately lie and deceive. Our Creator is not like humankind. The Words of God are tested. We can take refuge behind the shield of The Holy Scriptures. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">We can receive encouragement and strength from reading a few Scriptures each day. The Lord is waiting for us to take refuge in Him.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">So in our study, we Observe Words that appeared in a vision that appeared to Avram. Those Words are [ <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u05e9\u05b0\u05c2\u05db\u05b8\u05e8\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">], Reward, [ <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u05ea\u05b4\u05bc\u05d9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">], Fear and [ <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u05de\u05b8\u05d2\u05b5\u05df <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">] Protection.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">How does this apply to us? The first is awareness. It is important to note what our Creator did for Avram, who was a Spiritualist.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Second it essential to know that the Lord is the &#8216;Shield of our help.&#8217; See Devarim 33.29 Dovid Ha Melech wrote, Lord<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">, You are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head. I cried to The Lord with my voice, and He heard me out from his holy mountain. Selah.<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">\u00a0Tehillim 3.4,5\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">O Yisroel, trust in The Lord; He is [our] help and [our] shield. O house of Aaron, trust in The Lord; He is [our] help and [our] protection.
