Tzimtzum explained in Creation is when the Or EnSof (The Light of The Creator) Concealed Himself so that creation could exist.\u00a0 If G-d was to Reveal all of His Glory the universe would cease to exist because it couldn\u2019t stand the intensity of His Light.\u00a0 One could ask how is it that HaShem could Remove Himself from any part of creation?\u00a0 Nothing exists without there being some degree of G-d\u2019s Presence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We conceal bits and pieces of our true selves.\u00a0 Sometimes it is because we don\u2019t trust that the other will accept that part of us.\u00a0 Sometimes it is because we want that part of us to stay private or hidden between us and G-d.\u00a0 Americans especially treasure their privacy.\u00a0 That can be a good thing and it could be a negative thing. Judaism is about community.\u00a0 Living in a community makes it difficult to hide any part of our lives.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The power of the soul to affect things in our world is called conscious determination.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is tzimtzum that makes possible free-will choices. For, without tzimtzum there can be no darkness; without darkness, there can be no evil; without evil, there can be no alternative to make free-choice a reality.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In Bereishit (Genesis) 1.5\u00a0 we read\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

And there was evening and there was morning, one day<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Darkness preceded the light.\u00a0 This is a physical and spiritual truth.\u00a0 Often in our own lives darkness precedes the light.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every descent is for the purpose of ascent.\u00a0 Every failure to keep G-d\u2019s Commandments provides an opportunity for repentance and ascent back to G-d.\u00a0 David provides us an example where we watch his failure in falling for Batsheva.\u00a0 His failure provides us with a great example of remorse and repentance in Psalm 51.\u00a0 Our souls descend from heaven into our physical bodies in order to cause an ascent by means of Torah and Mitzvot.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0And do not let your evil inclination assure you that the grave is a refuge for you \u2014 for against your will were you created, against your will were you born, against your will do you live, against your will will you die, and against your will will you stand in judgment before the King of kings, the Holy One, Blessed be He. <\/em><\/strong>Pirkei Avot Treasury\u00a0 Artscroll Mesorah\u00a0 4.29 pages 293-294<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Even though we are born against our will, we do not want to die \u2013 which proves that we want to live.\u00a0 If so, then we must account to G-d for what we do with our lives. <\/em><\/strong>Pirkei Avot Treasury\u00a0 Artscroll Mesorah\u00a0 4.29 page 294<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

We have the opportunity to provide tikkum (repair) our souls and the world.\u00a0 The path has been laid out for us in the Kabbalah.\u00a0 We can study the worlds and the descending, ascending levels of our souls through the worlds<\/span>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 43.6 defines the five worlds and these five worlds define the path of our five levels of our soul.<\/span><\/p>\n

The five levels of our soul that we have looked at are in ascending order:<\/span><\/p>\n

the lowest level, call it the animal level, the level which animates and gives function to the body \u2013 enters the body during the nine months of gestation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Centered in the heart – tied to our emotions – develops when an infant is suckling at its Mother\u2019s breast<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Requires a lengthy period of mental\u00a0 development – our intellect – is what allows one to distinguish between good and evil.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Moral consciousness – communes with G\u2011d as He Transcends the worlds.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

cleaves to and reflects the original Infinite Light \u2013 connects us with HaShem \u2013 complete spiritual unification and wholeness.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Chaya and Yechida are concealed.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We cannot conceal all that we are from G-d.\u00a0 So let us leave concealment and go to tikkun.\u00a0 In order to repair ourselves we must allow our soul\u2019s journey to rise from world to world.\u00a0 This is done with Cheshbon Ha-Nefesh \u2013 Accounting of the soul<\/span><\/p>\n
