It also alludes to the 13 Attributes of Divine Mercy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The <em>Shema<\/em> is our affirmation of the <u>Unity of G-d<\/u>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Shema means <em>to hear, to listen, to obey<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">We are to hear with our outer ear, our inner ruach (spirit) and to contemplate the Perfect Unity of HaShem G-d.\u00a0 In this world we cannot see with our physical eyes G-d\u2019s Absolute Unity in Creation and for this reason we cover our eyes when proclaiming <em>Hear, O Israel; The L-rd our G-d is ONE L-rd.<\/em>\u00a0 If we <em>hear<\/em> we will <em>understand<\/em> it in our hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Rashi Comments: <strong>The L-rd is our G-d; the L-rd is ONE<\/strong> The L-rd, who is now our G-d and not the G-d of the other nations &#8211; He will be [declared] in the future \u201cthe ONE G-d,\u201d as it is said: <strong><em>For then I will convert the peoples to a pure language that all of them call in the Name of the L-rd<\/em><\/strong> (Zeph. 3:9), and it is [also] said: <strong><u>On that day will the L-rd be ONE and His Name ONE<\/u><\/strong> (Zechariah 14.9).\u00a0 Devarim\/Deuteronomy The Sapirstein Edition page 70<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">All the nations will abandon their false deities and acknowledge that HaShem IS the ONLY G-d and does not share His Mantle with any other power. <em>Rashi\u00a0 <\/em>The Talmud ( Pesachim 50a ) questions the meaning of this verse for it implies that G-d\u2019s Unity will not be absolute until the ultimate redemption will have taken place [ on that day HaShem will be ONE \u2013 implying not before that day ] R\u2019 Acha bar Chanina explained that unlike in this world where upon hearing good things one relates the blessing of <em>Who is good and does good<\/em> \u2013 and upon hearing bad tidings <em>The True Judge<\/em> [which may cause one to believe in a plurality in G-d for it is difficult to reconcile suffering and tragedy with G-d\u2019s attributes of mercy and kindness], in the World to Come, all of the blessings will be<em> Who is good and does good<\/em> for at that time there will be no bad tidings [ and the unity of G-d will be fully acknowleged and appreciated].<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><em>And His Name will be ONE.<\/em> G-d\u2019s Name will be ONE because no one will mentions the names of other gods; <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">only the Name of HaShem will be mentioned<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><u>Nothing <strong>corporeal<\/strong> can be a <strong>unity<\/strong><\/u>, either because everything corporeal is divisible or because it is a compound.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>All of our experiences impinging on our consciousness originate from one single source, HaShem G-d.\u00a0 We should contemplate the truth that G-d, Whose Essence Encompasses all being, is the only Reality.\u00a0 There is NO ONE besides Him.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The first of the Ten Commands is referred to in Kabbalah as <em>Emuna (faith) in General<\/em>,\u00a0 this Command to Unify G-d in Emuna, is referred to as <em>Emuna (faith) in Particular<\/em>.\u00a0 While <em>Emuna in General<\/em> is above us, <em>Emuna in Particular<\/em> is in front of us.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><em>Emuna (faith) in General<\/em> implies the experience of G-d Being with us and looking over us from above at all times.\u00a0 G-d\u2019s Transcendence is not removed from reality, but oversees reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><em>Emuna (faith) \u00a0in Particular<\/em> implies the recognition of G-d\u2019s Absolute Unity in all facets of reality as they present themselves in the forefront of our consciousness from moment to moment.\u00a0 Not only does G-d Oversee reality, but He <u>is<\/u> the very Essence of all reality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">If everything we experience is from G-d <em>and ultimately <u>is<\/u> G-d<\/em>, who is the Ultimate Good, then everything must be Ultimately Good.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The sages say <em>if I get angry I am serving idols<\/em>.\u00a0 When things don\u2019t go my way I get angry; the world is not conforming to my vision of perfection.\u00a0 But since G-d <u>is<\/u> ultimately in control, I am saying with my anger that I consider my version of the world better than His.\u00a0 I am enthroning my intellect and ego and paying homage to them instead of HaShem G-d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">We have various names for HaShem.\u00a0 They are simply a means to express a particular attribute of HaShem.\u00a0 i.e. Hayvayah (HaShem \u2013 both mean <strong><em>the Name<\/em><\/strong> ) is associated with mercy where as Elohim is associated with judgement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The Name Havayah signifies G-d\u2019s attribute of mercy whereas the Name Elohim signifies His attribute of judgment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><em>Hear, O Israel, Havayah, the All Merciful, is our\u00a0 Elohim, who appears to us in nature through His Attribute of judgment, yet Havayah is One, all is but an aspect of His Absolute Mercy.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The name <em>Israel<\/em> in this verse signifies the experience of the Jewish soul in its absolute, pure state, as <em>an actual part of G-d above.<\/em>\u00a0 In this verse we find the essence of our soul root.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat, for like <strong><u>the days of the tree <\/u><\/strong>are <strong><u>the days of My people<\/u><\/strong>, and My elect shall outlive their handiwork. <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 65.22<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Here Israel is symbolized as a tree.\u00a0 Every Jewish soul corresponds to a letter of the Torah, the <em>Tree of Life.<\/em>\u00a0 Life first appeared on the earth on Yom Sh\u2019lishi (day 3) of Creation.\u00a0 This day corresponds to the sefirah of Tiferet (beauty).\u00a0 In the Torah the root of Tiferet is used to describe the beautiful foliage of a tree.\u00a0 The Messiah is also referred to as a tree by the prophets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Tifferet\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 24px;\"> \u05ea\u05b4\u05e4\u05b0\u05d0\u05b6\u05e8\u05b6\u05ea<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">For you are the <em><u>glory<\/u><\/em> (Tiferet) of their strength; and in your favor our horn shall be exalted:\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Tehillim (Psalms) 89.18<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Branch<span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 24px;\"> \u05e6\u05b6\u05de\u05b7\u05d7<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">And speak to him, saying, Thus speaks the L-rd of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is the Branch (Zemach); and he shall grow up from his place, and he shall build The Temple of the L-rd:\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Zechariah 6.12<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Torah \u05ea\u05d5\u05b9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d4 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One Torah and One Code shall be for you, and for the stranger who sojourns with you:\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"> Bamidbar (Numbers) 15.16<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When we internalize the Command <em>Hear, O Israel, HaShem is our G-d, HaShem is ONE<\/em>, we partake of the Tree of Life and rectify the primordial sin of eating the forbidden fruit of the other tree, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.\u00a0 We begin to know and understand that the ultimate origin of what appears to us to be good or bad is all Divine Goodness and Mercy.\u00a0 We should place this in the <em>front<\/em> of our consciousness always.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Through this Command we become aware of our own Divine inner nature.\u00a0 We should aspire to emulate our Creator.\u00a0 Mercy is HaShem\u2019s most essential attribute because Mercy implies empathy and reflects HaShem\u2019s Oneness with His Creation.\u00a0 Our mercy should first be directed at the G-dly Sparks within other people and then to all of Creation.\u00a0 We redeem the G-dly Sparks from their spiritual exile by spreading the awareness of our Merciful G-d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Hosea 10:12 Chesed \u2013 Mercy &#8211; LovingKindness<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap according to loving-kindness, plow yourselves a plowing, and it is time to seek the L-rd, until He Comes and Instructs you in righteousness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">These are three levels of ascent here.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">To Know G-d \u2013 through prayer and study the mind then contemplates the Presence of G-d in our world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">To Consider it in your heart &#8211;\u00a0 our emotions are seated in our <em>hearts. <\/em>We should get emotionally involved in <em>believing and knowing<\/em> G-d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">There is no other \u2013 nothing exists without G-d \u2013 everything that exists is somehow a <em><u>part<\/u><\/em> of G-d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">We can never logically know G-d but by prayer, study and contemplation we KNOW G-d in our hearts.\u00a0 If we <strong><u>KNOW<\/u><\/strong> with our minds that G-d Exists then we would not have free will.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">G-d Imprinted on the Jewish soul at Sinai the belief in His Transcendence, His Existence which when we study and apply Torah to our lives we then enable our minds to know him<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Today not tomorrow.\u00a0 Today know and consider it in your heart\u2026\u00a0 Only today in our lifetime here on earth and not tomorrow when we, G-d Willing, enter the Olam Ha-Ba, are we given the opportunity to know G-d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">It is necessary to know that G-d\u2019s existence is absolutely simple, without combinations or additions of any kind. All perfections are found in Him in a perfectly simple manner\u2026.
