Devarim (Deuteronomy) 6.13<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 24px;\">\u05d0\u05b6\u05ea \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b1\u05dc\u05b9\u05d4\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05d9\u05e8\u05b8\u05d0 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b9\u05ea\u05d5\u05b9 \u05ea\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05d1\u05b9\u05d3 \u05d5\u05bc\u05d1\u05b4\u05e9\u05c1\u05b0\u05de\u05d5\u05b9 \u05ea\u05bc\u05b4\u05e9\u05bc\u05c1\u05b8\u05d1\u05b5\u05e2\u05b7<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Everthing from Aleph to Tav \u2013 HaShem \u2013 Eloheka \u2013 shall fear \u2013 and Him \u2013 shall serve \u2013 and in His Name \u2013 shall swear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Fear of HaShem was covered in Mitzvah 4.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Serve Him was covered in Mitzvah 5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Is there not however another text.\u00a0 And to Him shalt thou cling and swear by His Name\u2026T<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">emurah 3b\u00a0 (54) Ps. CXIX, 106.<\/span> And therefore there is need for the text: And shalt swear by His name to inform us that one may even utter the Name in an oath which is taken to observe commandments<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The sages teach that in order to be allowed to take an oath in HaShem\u2019s Name one must first observe all the commandments and love and fear HaShem with one\u2019s whole being.\u00a0 With the yetzer rah and the yetzer tov.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">AND BY HIS NAME SHALT THOU SWEAR.\u00a0 This is not a commandment to swear [by His Name].\u00a0 but it is an admonishment that [in the event one is required to take an oath] he should swear only by His Name and not by the name of another diety.<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"> Rambam Commentary on the Torah Deuteronomy page 84<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The Holy One, Blessed be He, said to them, <em>Do not reason that it is permitted to you to swear in My Name even truthfully unless there is all of the characteristics with you:\u00a0 The L-rd, your G-d, you shall fear, and to Him shall you cling.<\/em>\u00a0 And if we want, we can say that\u00a0 and in His Name shall you swear comes to give a positive commandment [alongside the] negative commandment on the one who swears in the name of idolatry; meaning to say, in His Name should he swear and not in the name of other gods. <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Midrash Tachuma Bamidbar II page 301<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One should always refrain from swearing but when one must sweat then we are to ONLY swear in HaShem\u2019s Name.\u00a0 The Torah is simply giving us permission to swear in HaShem\u2019s Name.\u00a0 There is no command to do so.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">May we try each day to learn about G-d, to follow His Ways and His Truth<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-774 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/jewishpath.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/qualabear2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"55\" height=\"79\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif; color: #0000ff; font-size: 16px;\">Blessings and Peace<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'comic sans ms', sans-serif; color: #0000ff; font-size: 16px;\">Rebbetzin Revi<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seventh Command: Taking an oath by G-d\u2019s Name \u00a0 You shall fear the L-rd your G-d, and serve Him, and shall swear by His Name.
