{"id":1590,"date":"2022-11-16T16:49:56","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T16:49:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jewishpath.org\/wordpress\/?page_id=1590"},"modified":"2022-11-16T16:49:56","modified_gmt":"2022-11-16T16:49:56","slug":"12-tefillin-of-the-head","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/jewishpath.org\/wordpress\/12-tefillin-of-the-head","title":{"rendered":"12 &#8211; Tefillin of the head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><strong>Mitzvah 12 <\/strong>\u00a0<strong>The Tefillin of the head<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as totafot between your eyes:<span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"> Devarim (Deuteronomy) 6.8<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 24px;\">\u05d5\u05bc\u05e7\u05b0\u05e9\u05c1\u05b7\u05e8\u05b0\u05ea\u05bc\u05b8\u05dd \u05dc\u05b0\u05d0\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea \u05e2\u05b7\u05dc \u05d9\u05b8\u05d3\u05b6\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05d5\u05bc \u05dc\u05b0\u05d8\u05b9\u05d8\u05b8\u05e4\u05b9\u05ea \u05d1\u05bc\u05b5\u05d9\u05df \u05e2\u05b5\u05d9\u05e0\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">Ltotafot<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">the\u00a0<em>totafot<\/em> in Shemot (Exodus) 13.16, Devarim (Deuteronomy) 6.8 and 11.18<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">And these words, which I command you this day, shall be upon your heart;\u00a0\u00a0and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.\u00a0And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as\u00a0<em>totafot<\/em> between your eyes. <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Devarim \u00a0(Deuteronomy) 6.6<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">Therefore shall you place these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as\u00a0<em>totafot<\/em>\u00a0between your eyes.\u00a0<sup>11:19<\/sup>\u00a0And you shall teach them to your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up. <span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Devarim (Deuteronomy) 11.18<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\"><strong>And Rabbi Levi bar \u0124ama said <\/strong>that <strong>Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish said: <\/strong>G-d Said to Moses, <em>Ascend to me on the mountain and be there, <strong>and I will give you the stone tablets and the Torah and the mitzvah that I have Written that you may teach them<\/strong><\/em> Shemot (Exodus) 24:12, meaning that G-d Revealed to Moses not only the Written Torah, but all of Torah, as it would be transmitted through the generations. <strong>The <em>tablets<\/em> are the Ten Commandments <\/strong>that were written on the tablets of the Covenant, <strong>the <em>Torah<\/em> is the five books of Moses. The <em>mitzvah<\/em> is the Mishna, <\/strong>which includes explanations for the mitzvot and how they are to be performed. <strong><em>That I have written<\/em> refers to the Prophets and Writings, <\/strong>written with Divine Inspiration. <strong><em>That you may teach them<\/em> refers to the Talmud, <\/strong>which explains the Mishna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">These explanations are the foundation for the rulings of practical <em>halakha<\/em>. This verse <strong>teaches <\/strong>that <strong>all <\/strong>aspects of Torah <strong>were given to <\/strong>Moses <strong>from Sinai. <\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\">Talmud Berakhot 5a<strong> \u00a0<\/strong>Koren Talmud Bavli THE NO\u00c9 \u00a0EDITION page 25<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 20px;\">The Talmud Berachot 5a says, <em>The Holy One, Blessed be He, Gave Israel three precious gifts and all of them are only given through suffering.\u00a0 These are:\u00a0 The Torah, the Land of Israel and the World to Come.\u00a0 How do we know this is stated in the Torah?\u00a0 Because it is said:\u00a0\u00a0 Happy is the man whom you discipline and whom You Teach the Torah.
