You Shall Go To Your Fathers in Peace<\/span><\/a><\/p>\nBy Dr. Akiva Gamliel Belk<\/span><\/p>\nDear Ones, The Missouri Belk\u2019s have been remembering my father\u2019s yahrzeit. Our Torah Discussion is in the loving memory of Mr. George ben Idah, of blessed memory. May he rest in peace and may he be elevated in the Heavens. May his memory be for good.<\/span><\/p>\nGenesis 15 is known as the chapter with the ‘Covenant between the Pieces.’ Avram is seventy years old. Sari is Sixty years old. This was in year 2,018 From Creation. It was Abram\u2019s first venture into Eretz Canaan. They would visit then return to Haran. They would leave Haran for the last time in 2,023 From Creation. That is five years away. <\/span><\/p>\nIn Chapter 15 we learn:<\/span><\/p>\nThe Lord is Avram’s shield<\/span>– <\/span>\u05de\u05b8\u05d2\u05b5\u05df<\/span><\/span><\/p>\nAvram and Sari were childless.<\/span><\/p>\nAvram is told he would have children – Look to The Heavens \u2026 so shall your seed be\u2026<\/span><\/p>\nThe Lord tells Avram that He delivered him from the fires of the Chaldees\u2026<\/span><\/p>\nAvram is instructed to sacrifice\u2026<\/span><\/p>\nAvram is informed that his seed will be as strangers in a land that is not their\u2019s. They will be afflicted four hundred years\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\nThe Lord will Judge the nation responsible\u2026<\/span><\/p>\nAvram’s Descendants would come forth with great wealth.<\/span><\/p>\nIn the fourth generation, they will return to The Land of Cannan\u2026<\/span><\/p>\nThe Lord and Avram made a covenant.<\/span><\/p>\nAvram was informed,<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Genesis 15.16<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n:<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u05d5\u05b0\u05d0\u05b7\u05ea\u05b8\u05bc\u05d4\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05ea\u05b8\u05bc\u05d1\u05d5\u05b9\u05d0\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05d0\u05b6\u05dc\u05be\u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b9\u05ea\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05d1\u05b0\u05bc\u05e9\u05b8\u05c1\u05dc\u05d5\u05b9\u05dd\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05ea\u05b4\u05bc\u05e7\u05b8\u05bc\u05d1\u05b5\u05e8\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05d1\u05b0\u05bc\u05e9\u05b5\u05c2\u05d9\u05d1\u05b8\u05d4\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u05d8\u05d5\u05b9\u05d1\u05b8\u05d4<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\nAnd you shall go\u00a0<\/span>to your fathers in peace;\u00a0<\/span>you shall be buried in a good old age.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n

The Lord God offers comfort to Avram. ‘[Your Soul] shall go to your fathers in peace.’<\/span><\/p>\nShalom is representative of Success, of Contentment, of Comfort, of Well-Being and of Tranquility. In other Words, Avram was going to the World after this one (Olam Haba). He was going to Heaven\u2026 There are many wonderful words for Heaven.<\/span><\/p>\nAvram is informed that others he knew in this life would also be there in Heaven, i.e. ‘Your Fathers.’<\/span><\/p>\nHe was ‘[lovingly<\/strong>] gathered to his people.’ Who were his people? The righteous. The Observant. He was NOT rejected\u2026 He was NOT done away with. He was lovingly gathered. He was brought in to his people.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
We know that Terach, Avraham’s Father, a former Idol maker repented from Idol making because Avraham joined his father in heaven. <\/span>Rabbi Meir Zlotowitz and Rabbi Nosson Scherman, <\/span>The Artscroll Tanach Series – Bereishis Vol. I(a)<\/u><\/span>(Brooklyn, New York: Mesorah Publications, Ltd. 3rd Impression, 1989), p 531<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n‘Your Fleshly body will be buried.’ <\/span><\/p>\nThis will happen when you are old. <\/span><\/p>\nYou will be at a ‘Good Old Age.’ It is not going to be tragic.<\/span><\/p>\nWe know that the issues between Avraham and Yishmael were resolved because his sons buried him.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Genesis 25.7-9<\/span><\/p>\nAnd these are the days of the years of Abraham\u2019s life which he lived, a hundred and seventy-five years.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\nThen Abraham expired, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Genesis 25.9<\/span><\/p>\n‘\u2026his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah\u2026’<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Dear Ones what we observe here is that Avraham’s soul went to Heaven. He joined other souls already in Heaven. Heaven is a very good place.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n
