When the Blessed Holy One Created the first human, He took him and Led him round all the trees of the Garden of Eden and said to him: <em>Look at My works, how beautiful and praiseworthy they are! And all that I have Created, <strong>it was for you<\/strong> that I Created it. <strong>Pay attention that you do not corrupt and destroy My world:<\/strong> if you corrupt it, there is no one to repair it after you<\/em>. <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Koheles Rabbah 7.13<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">If a person is drawn toward this world and distances himself from his Creator, he will be corrupted and will corrupt the world with him.\u00a0 Yet, if he can rule over himself and he cleaves to his Creator and uses this world solely to aid him in serving his Creator, he will be elevated and the world itself will be uplifted with him. \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">The Path of the Just Moshe Chaim Luzzatto Feldheim page 9-10<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.chabad.org\/kids\/article_cdo\/aid\/8700\/jewish\/Negative-Commandment-49.htm\">Negative Commandment 49<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Devarim (Deuteronomy) 7.1-2<\/span>\u00a0<em>You shall not make a treaty with them<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">We are not allowed to make a treaty with the Seven Nations of\u00a0Canaan, the nations that inhabited\u00a0Eretz Yisrael\u00a0before its conquest by the Jews.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">These nations are:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Hittites,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Girgashites,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Amorites,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u00a0the Canaanites,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Perizzites,<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Hivites, and<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">the Jebusites.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The land of the seven nations<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u2013 the seven sefirot<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u2013 the seven emotions that need to be refined<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">\u2013 these are the garments of the soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And Jericho had shut its gates and was barred because of the children of Israel; none went out and none came in.\u00a0 And the L-rd said to Joshua, <em>See, I have given into your hand Jericho and its king, the mighty warriors<\/em>.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yehoshua (Josh<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">ua) 6.1-2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And Joshua said, <em>By this, you shall know that the Living G-d is in your midst, and He will certainly Drive out the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites from before you. <\/em><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Yehoshua (Joshua) 3.10<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">This is the command to conquer the land, to conquer our seven emotions.\u00a0 We transform Caanan into the Land of Israel. We transform our emotive elements of our soul, we transform our character.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">See Positive Commandment 187<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Jericho represents the <strong><u>soul\u2019s three garments<\/u><\/strong>, thought, speech and deed.\u00a0 These are from the animal soul.\u00a0 The Divine soul is found in the love and awe (fear) of G-d when we think and understand Words of Torah, speak Words of Torah, and when we do Mitzvot.\u00a0 <strong><u>These Mitzvot become the garments of our soul in the afterlife<\/u><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif; font-size: 24pt;\">\u05d5\u05b0\u05d4\u05b8\u05d9\u05b8\u05d4 \u05db\u05b4\u05bc\u05d9 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d1\u05b4\u05d0\u05b2\u05da\u05b8 \u05d9\u05b0\u05d4\u05b9\u05d5\u05b8\u05d4 \u05d0\u05b6\u05dc \u05d0\u05b6\u05e8\u05b6\u05e5 \u05d4\u05b7\u05db\u05b0\u05bc\u05e0\u05b7\u05e2\u05b2\u05e0\u05b4\u05d9 \u05db\u05b7\u05bc\u05d0\u05b2\u05e9\u05b6\u05c1\u05e8 \u05e0\u05b4\u05e9\u05b0\u05c1\u05d1\u05b7\u05bc\u05e2 \u05dc\u05b0\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05b0\u05dc\u05b7\u05d0\u05b2\u05d1\u05b9\u05ea\u05b6\u05d9\u05da\u05b8 \u05d5\u05bc\u05e0\u05b0\u05ea\u05b8\u05e0\u05b8\u05d4\u05bc \u05dc\u05b8\u05da\u05b0 : \u05e1<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">And it shall be when the L-rd shall Bring you into the land of the Canaanites, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it to you:\u00a0 <span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Shemot (Exodus) 13.11<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">The word Canaan in this verse is surrounded by a H<em>ei<\/em>\u00a0and a\u00a0<em>Yud<\/em>; they are letters of G\u2011d&#8217;s Name, hence <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>by surrounding Canaan they transform it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Chesed\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Canaanites \u2013 Ham is the father of Canaan Gen. 9.18 \u2013 Chesed expresses unlimited benevolence.\u00a0 Chesed is expansive and outflowing.\u00a0 Canaanites are associated with idolatry.\u00a0 Idolatry belongs to the realm of reality that is forbidden.\u00a0 They are intrinsically evil.\u00a0 They are <strong><em>asur<\/em><\/strong>, tied down \u2013 the opposite of Chesed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Gevurah\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Hittites \u2013 Gevruah is the power to restrain one\u2019s innate urge to bestow goodness upon others. \u2013 The word Hittite means <em>sons of terror<\/em> and refers to the descendants of Heth.\u00a0 Terror produces a sense of deep emotional despair and torment. This is the opposite of Gevurah.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Tiferet\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Amorites \u2013 Tiferet is harmony, empathy, and mercy. Amorites were obsessed with earthly fame and glory, they were domineering, the opposite of Tiferet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Netzah\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Perizites \u2013 \u00a0also referred to as Rephaim \u2013 Netzach is victory, fortitude, ambition and the opposite of Perizites which have limited vision, laziness, low self-esteem<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Hod\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Hivites \u2013 Hod is devotion and humility.\u00a0 The Hivites had limited vision.\u00a0 They were focused on enjoying an earthly inheritance, hedonism<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Yesod\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Jebusites \u2013 Yesod means foundation but it is also an emotion called bonding.\u00a0 You bond with something or someone, it is not just experiencing something.\u00a0 Jebustites suppressed spiritual authority in fellow believers, they were legalistic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18pt;\">Malchut\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u2013 Girgashites &#8211; Malchut literally means nobility and kingship.\u00a0 On an emotional level, it is leadership and sovereignty.\u00a0 The soul power of Malchut is self-expression which we is expressed with the power of speech.\u00a0 Kingship requires that we be sensitive to the needs of those we seek to rule.\u00a0 We draw closer to G-d through the portal of Malchut.\u00a0 Tehillim (Psalms) 118.20 says\u2026\u2026\u2026. <em>This is the gate of the L-rd, into which the righteous shall enter.<\/em> Total commitment to G-d\u2019s Way, to the Torah.\u00a0 It is why the world exists.
