Numbers 33:1 - 36:13 The Leadership of Moshe and Aharon © This study of mysticism in Hebrew Gematria is dedicated in the loving memory of Mrs. Ethel Belk, may she rest in peace. It is in the fortieth year of B'nei Yisroel's journeys in the BaMidbar. Aharon is 123 and Moshe is 120. They are both close to death. They know it! They know that they will not be leading their beloved people across the Yarden into Canaan. Their sister Miriam just passed away. She was 130. Each had a very long life honored by Hashem. Moshe lived fifty years beyond seventy, Aharon fifty-three and Miriam sixty. They were the three shepherds of Yisroel. Their lives reflected this. When leaders live to such mature ages it would be understandable if because of the great length of their lives they made mistakes. It might be understandable if they made serious mistakes. Yet the lives of these three honored people excelled in righteousness in every manner. They were not without fault yet their faults were minuscule. These leaders were very respected. Now at the end of their lives Moshe writes in the Torah, "These are the journeys of B'nei Yisroel who went out of Mitzriam in organized groups under the leadership of Moshe and Aharon {Bi Yahd Moshe Vi Aharon}." Numbers 33:1 What is so significant about Bi Yahd Moshe Vi Aharon? This statement secretly reveals something about their very special character and relationship with G-d. The Gematria of Bi Yahd Moshe Vi Aharon is 623 which is also the same Gematria for Mish Paht Tzeh Dehk, meaning righteous justice. From right to left: Bi Yahd Moshe Vi Aharon Vi Aharon 623 = 361 + 262 Mish Paht Tzeh Dehk Tzeh Dehk 623 = 429 + 194 This is most significant because it typifies Moshe's and Aharon's lives. They were not just righteous men but they observed righteous justice. They led Kal Yisroel for many years in total observance of righteous justice. What greater honor could be spoken of two men than they were leaders who strictly observed righteous justice? They did not show favoritism or partiality, etc. They did not accept bribes. They were not self serving leaders. They did not push their own programs or agendas. They were not involved in sex scandals. Their only concern was total dedication to Hashem, the Torah and His people, B'nei Yisroel. Most people who lead a nation for much shorter periods of time are wrapped in scandals, etc. G-d forbid! Yet Moshe and Aharon excelled in righteous justice. Righteous Justice should be our aim in our dealings with each other. Even though many of us may fall short of such lofty goals we still need to stretch. We still need to reach out and embrace the thought, the power, the concept of Moshe's and Aharon's accomplishment. Somehow we must begin weaving or continue weaving their fine examples into the fabric of our lives. Wishing you the best, Dr. Akiva G. Belk JewishPath is a sponsor of B'nai Noach Torah Institute.
