"MAY HASHEM BLESS YOU FOR SHARING IN OUR VISION AND SHARING IN OUR EXPENSES!" - Akiva and Staff We read within the Torah, "On the order
of Hashem they camped and on the order of Hashem they traveled;
they kept the watch of Hashem on the order of Hashem, through
{by} Moshe{'s hand}." The man Moshe was the most humble of men, we read in this parsha. {Numbers 12:3} Three times the following words appear: "Ahl Pee Hashem,",meaning "On Hashem's order," occurs twenty-two times in the Torah, twice in Joshua and once in Kings for a total of twenty-five times. Within six verses, Numbers 9:18, 20, 23 Ahl Pee Hashem occurs seven times. The Gematria of Ahl Pee Hashem is 216. I am drawn especially to verse 23 where Ahl Pee Hashem occurs three times. This has great significance. Any time a combination of words are repeated as this one is we have to ask, Why? {From Right to left} Hashem 216 = 190 + 26 The first Ahl Pee Hashem is in reference to Genesis 1:28 Oor Doo, meaning "And Dominate." Hashem gave this charge to Adam and Chava after He blessed them: "G-d blessed them, and G-d said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it, and dominate the fish of the sea, the birds of the heaven, and every living thing that moves upon the earth.'" Now this included the serpent that tempted Chava and Adam. They failed to "DOMINATE" the serpent. {From Right to left} Oor Doo The second Ahl Pee Hashem of 216 added upon 216 which equals 432 is in reference to Genesis 3:8, Vah Yeesh Mi Oo, meaning "They {Adam and Chava} heard." What did they hear? "They heard the voice of Hashem G-d moving in the Garden at the breeze of day {after they sinned}. The man and his wife hid themselves from the {Presence of} Hashem G-d among the trees of the Garden." {From Right to left} Vah Yeesh Mi Oo The third Ahl Pee Hashem of 216 is added upon the first two {432} which equals 648. This is in reference to Genesis 49:28 Ci Veer Chaw So, meaning "He {Yisroel} blessed each one {of his sons} with his own unique blessing." This was after they were seventeen years in Mitzriam. {From Right to left} Ci Veer Chaw So The first Ahl Pee Hashem in Numbers 9:23, "On the order of Hashem they camped,"corresponds with the domination of every moving thing in Gan Eden. They resided in Gan Eden. Gan Eden had boundaries. When they {B'nei Yisroel} camped, their camp had boundaries also. However, as in Gan Eden, the problems - the temptations - came from within. The second Ahl Pee Hashem in Numbers 9:23, "On the order of Hashem they traveled", connects leaving the camp area with leaving Gan Eden. Adam and Chava in their fallen state could not remain in the close relationship that they had experienced with Hashem. B'nei Yisroel in this sense could not remain in the area of their sin. They traveled. Notice after Miriam sinned, "Hashem said to Moshe: 'If her father were to spit in her face would she not be in shame for seven days? She shall be closed off for seven days, beyond the encampment, and after that, she may join again.' Miriam was closed off beyond the encampment for seven days and the people did not depart until Miriam was brought in to join them. After that, the people traveled from Chatzeiros and they camped in the desert of Paran." Numbers 12:14-16 Here Miriam was removed from the camp and later B'nei Yisroel was removed from the camp area where this sin occurred! Adam and Chava heard the voice of Hashem moving. How does one hear a voice moving? In all senses: sound, noise, rumor, and in their minds they heard the voice of Hashem saying over and over again the command that they had broken, "You may certainly eat from every tree in the Garden. But from the Tree of Knowledge of what is good and evil, you shall not eat from it, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die." Genesis 2:16,17 In the same way Moshe, Aharon and Miriam were called out from among Kal Yisroel. Aharon and Miriam heard the voice of Hashem reproving them, their sin, as Adam and Chava heard. They were on a very high level. Miriam had only repeated to Aharon the loshon that she had heard from Zippora. The Third Ahl Pee Hashem in Numbers 9:23 "...they kept the watch of Hashem on the order of Hashem, through {by} Moshe{'s hand}" corresponds with Yaakov's unique blessing for B'nei Yisroel. Yaakov said to his sons, "'Gather around and I will tell you what will happen to you in the end of days. Come together and listen, sons of Yaakov; listen to Yisroel, your father.'" Genesis 49:1,2 Here he first portrays himself as Yaakov the one who was accused by Esov as the deceiver. Then he portrays himself as Yisroel, the one who has touched G-d, as the one who is victorious over Esov's angel. These portrayals were important because Yaakov's sons, in their fallen state, so to speak, were told "LISTEN TO YISROEL, YOUR FATHER." In other words listen to the superior voice of Yisroel, not Yaakov. Listen to the victorious voice not the one accused of deceit, etc. So the correlation here in the third usage of Ahl Pee Hashem is that of being on guard {"KEEP THE WATCH OF HASHEM"} against our tendency to be a Yaakov when we need to be a Yisroel. The nature of each son was revealed! When one acknowledges their weakness they can better guard over it! One can better protect oneself! Now from the Gematrias of 216, 432 and 648 we learn life patterns. When we are blessed by Hashem we should be strong and dominate. It is then we fail. When we should be enjoying Gan Eden we are fleeing because of our sin. We know our nature. We know our weaknesses. We know the areas of our life that we need to guard, the areas we need to watch. For this we have a blessing from our father, Yisroel, in dealing with our less spiritual nature. We have a blessing that when properly used can lift us to the victorious level of Yisroel! HOW? "On the order of Hashem through {by} Moshe{'s hand}." In other words, the Torah! We are still guided by Hashem's command {the Torah} and by Moshe's hand through the Torah! It is by the careful observance of the Torah that we must keep the watch of Hashem because it is only through the Torah that any of us can properly deal with our less than spiritual side! So in the three usages of Ahl Pee Hashem we see our failure to dominate our enemy, our sin, defeat and expulsion from Gan Eden and from a close relationship with Hashem, and our eventual victory to higher spiritual levels through observing the Torah! We see our domination reestablished through the blessing of our father Yisroel in the end of days... Wishing you the best, Dr. Akiva G. Belk JewishPath is a sponsor of B'nai Noach Torah Institute.
