Gen. 34 – God’s Law

Genesis 34 – God’s Seven Universal Laws

Dear family and friends, our discussion this week is in Genesis 34. where Dinah, the daughter of Leah, went out to see the daughters of The Land. Prince Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, saw Dinah. He kidnapped Dinah, raped and defiled her. Did Shechem break The Law? Yes!! What Laws did Shechem disobey? He stole Dinah, i.e., kidnapped Dinah. That is the same Law people of the first world violated in Noah’s day. Who established and mandated The Seven Universal Laws? The Lord God Established The Seven Universal Laws on Day Six of Creation. Whose responsibility was it to hold Prince Shechem accountable? The Judicial Officers of the country of Shechem. What happened? Those officials overlooked Prince Shechem’s violations of The Seven Universal Laws, much like American Officials overlooked serious violations of former officials of The U.S. Government!!

The Lord God Gave The Seven Universal Laws to all of humanity. Adam and Eve / Chavah were judged and held accountable by The Seven Universal Laws. They stole fruit from the forbidden Tree. They dishonored The Holy Name of God. Cain was judged by The Seven Universal Laws for murdering his brother, Abel. The lawbreakers in Noah’s day were judged and held accountable for stealing/kidnapping and rape by The Seven Universal Laws. The people of Nineveh were judged and held responsible in accordance with The Seven Universal Laws.

The Talmud, Teaches The Noahide Laws apply to all humanity. In Judaism, בני נח B’nei Noah (Hebrew, “Descendants of Noah,” “Children of Noah”) refers to all of humankind. The Talmud also states: “Righteous people of all nations have a share in the World to Come.” Any non-Jew who lives by The Seven Laws is regarded as one of “the righteous among the gentiles.” Encyclopedia Talmudit, Hebrew edition, Israel, 5741/1981, entry Ben Noah, introduction.

Do we have collaboration? Yes!

Genesis 6.3

And The Lord said, ‘My spirit shall not always strive with man, for he also is flesh; yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.

Christian Text: 2Peter 2:5

And [God] spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly.

Portions of the information above were drawn from the Jewish Midrash, Sefer HaYashar, The Book of Jasher is referred to in Joshua 10.13 and 2Samuel 2.18. Sefer HaYashar (Hoboken, NJ: KTAV Publishing House, Inc., 1993,) p. 16-19. AKA The Book of Jasher.

Whether we like it or not; it’s clear The Lord God Holds all humanity accountable for obeying The Seven Laws!! American laws state that ‘Ignorance of The Law is no excuse.’ Does The Torah say the same thing about God’s Law? If one is unfamiliar with God’s Law and they sin, are they accountable for their sin? Yes!! Perhaps it would be wise to inquire from one’s Spiritual Leader, Teacher, Priest, Pastor, Minister, Rabbi to see if He/She is acquainted with The Seven Universal Laws. Does He/She know The Seven Universal Laws? Does He/She Teach His/Her followers to obey The Seven Universal Laws?

May each of us study The תורה Torah to learn our responsibilities to The Lord God Creator of the Universe and our fellow Man and Woman. If you have questions, text message me.

May we be blessed with Observing TheCommandments God requires of us.
